Take a minute to write down the bullet points of the family story you grew up with. All the things that stick out in your mind. I'm sure you've thought about it before but write it out or type it out where your eyes can examine it from outside of yourself. Once you've gotten it all down, I want you to ask yourself these questions-
Who wrote the story?
How might members of your family see the story differently than you?
Who do you play in the story?
Is this truly who you are?
What would you change about your role today?
What would be required of you to change your role?
How would changing your role affect your life from here on out?
How and who might this affect in the original story?
If you choose not to change your role, how will you be affected?
What would the story look like ten chapters from now if your role stays exactly the same?
Know that your insight on these questions may shift and change as this course goes on. Our brains are usually a little bit uncomfortable with looking at things from a different perspective until we've been doin' it for a hot minute so, let it open up to you.
